Oil Paintings

Madeline Owen is a mixed media artist living and working in Brooklyn, where she is currently an artist-in-residence at Collier West Gallery. Originally from Seattle, she began her training at Gage Academy of Art with a focus on traditional drawing and painting. Over time, her practice has evolved into a tactile, intuitive language that bridges drawing and painting, incorporating crushed pastels, handmade pigments, and various powders to create richly layered surfaces. Her work explores bodies and animals in ethereal settings. Owen’s paintings act as containers for moments of undoing and remaking as she stubbornly paints over, scrapes, and layers with the various techniques of the old masters to speak to an emotional dreamscape that lives inside each of her subjects.
